After completing this course, you will be able to:

- The electronic health record (EHR)

- Health data standards
- Describe NLM’s roles and responsibilities related to health information standards
- Define terminology standards
- Provide an overview of some of the medical terminologies worked on by NLM
- Describe general features of terminologies
- Identify the role of Health Level Seven International (HL7) in the development of health data standards
- Define the characteristics of each of the below standards that enable interoperability, and explain how the standard is used today:
- Version 2 (V2)
- Clinical Document Architecture (CDA)
- Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)
- Provide examples of how organizational interoperability is applied in health information systems
