This course builds on the skills and learning from the ‘Getting Started with the PHDL Version 2’.
Join us to learn some tools and techniques on how to use the PHDL Central webpage.
With the PubMed search tool, we will walk through searches made more precise using Medical Subjects Headings (MeSH), demonstrate some tools and searches for keeping current in your field by creating saved searches or alerts.
If your department is a member of the Public Health Digital Library (PHDL) program you have access to over 300 evidence-based resources including, trusted journals, e-books, and databases to support your work.
Look for your department or organization in the directory of PHDL Program Members and Partner Libraries to confirm that your organization participates in the program.
With your registration confirmation, you will receive links to download documents to review how to access the PHDL as well as how to create a My NCBI login that will help when using the PubMed tools covered during the session.
You will need to be on your organization's network or working from your office, or login into your single sign-on account, to access the PHDL central webpage.
A My NCBI account is recommended so you can save your work in PubMed. If needed, please register for a My NCBI account and/or create your single sign-on account to the PHDL prior to the course.
By the end of this class participants should be able to:
Recognize when to use MeSH for PubMed searches
List the steps to search PubMed using MeSH terms
Describe how to save searches and make them into alerts in PubMed
List steps to do a table of contents search in PubMed
