Demystifying LIS profession to BIPOC undergraduate students: BIPOC Become Librarians

In this presentation, our guest presenter will share the premise of the IMLS-funded program, 'BIPOC Become Librarians' which addresses the lack of diversity in the LIS profession.  They will discuss the process they developed and what was learned.

This presentation champions increasing diversity in health sciences librarianship, highlighting an NLM and NIH priority.

Mantra Roy, PhD, MLIS, Community Engagement Librarian, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, San Jose State University

Dr. Roy, works at San Jose State University's King Library as a tenure-track librarian faculty. Along with reference, collection development and information literacy sessions, she focuses on projects that bring visibility to underrepresented groups and communities. 

Objectives:
  1. Develop programing to address a need in the community/profession
  2. Identify partners to collaborate on a project and conduct outreach
  3. Evaluate and assess the program
