Advancing Evidence-Based Interventions in Rural Communities, a Region 6 Spotlight Speaker Webinar

Class Experience Level
Beginner, Intermediate

Description:

The Putting Public Health Evidence in Action Training was initially designed by the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network to assist health practitioners and program planners in developing capacity to use evidence-based approaches. University of Iowa Prevention Research Center for Rural Health adapted the training, in partnership with community advisors and input from previous trainees, in order to make it more applicable for rural communities. The adapted training takes the original training and makes it more widely digestible to a wide range of practitioners working in public health and community-based organizations in rural and micropolitan communities. This webinar will cover main takeaways from each of the six modules of the trainings, highlight examples from rural communities of training principles being applied, and introduce participants to the activities and resources that accompany the adapted training.

Guest Speaker:

Becky Bucklin, MPH, is a Research Manager for the University of Iowa Prevention Research Center for Rural Health. Her work focuses on promoting evidence-based interventions, physical activity, health disparities, community engagement, healthy eating, and rurality. She has worked extensively in rural communities throughout Iowa, promoting evidence-based public health initiatives through principals of Community Engaged Research and Community Based Participatory Research. She managed the adaptation of the Putting Public Health Evidence in Action training developed by the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) to the micropolitan community context to better serve practitioners in rural and micropolitan communities. She continues to be incredibly excited and passionate about this project and works closely with community, state, and national leaders to spread knowledge about this adapted training. She is passionate about community engaged public health research and moving the needle forward toward a more healthful future.
