Love Data Week is celebrated in February, and provides an opportunity to learn about data, how to make good use of it, and to recognize its importance across all that we do. The NNLM offers programs on supporting data management, data visualization, and data tools. Pick from a variety of events and workshops to learn a little something about data annually in February!
As we consider “Whose data is it, anyway?”, it is also critical to discuss what becomes of the knowledge generated from related data analyses and how that might promote health equity in today’s healthcare landscape. Recent revolutions in AI render such a discussion even more timely and imperative.
Data sharing and data discovery are essential parts of the research process, and tools from the National Library of Medicine are available to help! The NNLM Data Repository Finder is meant to help locate NIH-supported repositories for sharing research data. It is a tool that asks you to answer a set of questions about your research and shows you which repositories are available for your data sharing needs. And to help with data discovery, the NLM Dataset Catalog is a catalog of biomedical datasets from various repositories for users to search, retrieve, and connect with datasets to accelerate scientific research. This session will show how to use these tools, and the presenters will be available to answer any questions.
Artificial intelligence (AI) can be used in libraries and archives as a powerful tool for enhancing metadata, improving search and discovery, recommending resources, powering library chatbots, and more. However, AI systems also have the potential to cause social, technical, and ethical problems. In response to these issues, the IMLS-funded Responsible AI in Libraries and Archives project has created an ethical reflection aid to facilitate responsible implementation of AI systems in libraries and archives. During this webinar, members of the project team will discuss research results and introduce the prototype ethical reflection aid.
Offered by the NNLM National Evaluation Center (NEC), this 1-hour long training session is designed to equip you with essential skills using Microsoft Excel.
This is the first session in a series of five related trainings. Only this first session will take place during the 2025 Love Data Week.
Are you curious about what this whole data thing entails? Are you interested in starting new research data services at your institution? Have you considered a career in data services? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, this webinar is for you. We'll discuss how to start and where your library fits in.
The webinar will guide researchers, librarians, grant administrators, and other research support staff in understanding data management plan basics, creating a DMPTool profile and exploring available templates and planning resources.
The webinar series introduces the basics of data management and the new requirements for data management and sharing that will be in place beginning in 2023.
