Bridging Language Barriers: Chuukese Health Literacy and Translation Initiative at GMH

The "Bridging Language Barriers: Chuukese Health Literacy and Translation Initiative at GMH" project aims to address significant language barriers faced by the Chuukese-speaking population in Guam. This initiative will train bilingual Chuukese-English staff to become certified translators, enabling them to produce culturally and linguistically appropriate translated materials and audio resources. These resources will improve patient  understanding of health conditions and treatments, thereby enhancing communication between patients and healthcare providers. The project also includes promoting health literacy through the integration of MedlinePlus into GMH’s resources. Ultimately, this project seeks to reduce health disparities and improve healthcare access for an underserved community.
