Health Literacy Expansion (HeLiX)

The proposed Queens Public Library (QPL) Health Literacy Expansion (HeLiX) project will expand access to an existing health and digital literacy pilot program for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) speakers who are caregivers of young children in the greater Jamaica, Queens community. This pilot program, as part of a broader consortium called The Strong Together: Tree of Life Center (TOLC) Partnership for Young Children’s Health, is an initiative to create specialized support and foster early childhood development in a newly built affordable apartment community and service hub in Jamaica, Queens. The HeLiX project will enhance the pilot program by including translated informational and educational materials into three critical languages spoken in the broader Jamaica area (Spanish, Bengali, and Haitian Creole), developing marketing design and strategy, and supporting transportation costs for instructors, outreach, and participants traveling to classes.
