Collection Equity Award - Walla Walla County Rural Library District

WWCRLD is in the midst of strategic planning and two community focus groups have indicated the need for health information and all-ages programming for the public in a variety of areas.  While we have development partnerships with other educational agencies in the county, developing and strengthening our engagement with area organizations with a focus on health and wellness will be one of our strategic initiatives.

As we work on community involvement, we also recognize the need to develop our collections and resources.  We currently provide the Medline database in English and Spanish, and have materials in our collections at our four branches and bookmobile.  To further enhance our available resources, WWCRLD seeks to address general public health information needs for adults and children.

With a Collection Equity Award, we would purchase materials that are in English, Spanish, and bilingual to create 8-10 circulating topical kits.  The kits will provide print materials, books, realia, and other information in the areas of maternal and child health, aging, health equity, mental health, communicable disease, tobacco and substance abuse, chronic disease, healthy eating and exercise, and health policy and reform.
