The Addict's Wake Community Film Screening Award

The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) will partner with Glory Girls Production to present the film, Addict’s Wake. The movie shares stories of substance use disorder and treatment told from the survivor’s perspective. Following a week of virtual film screenings, a panel discussion including the film’s director, Lori Hall, Dr William Cooke, a physician featured in the film, and Dr. Lisa Witty virtually will present a one-hour panel discussion. They will share their experiences and knowledge for recognizing, diagnosing and supporting persons with substance use disorders while advocating for advances in prevention and recovery awareness and information for the broad impact of substance use primarily in small and rural communities. The program also will raise awareness of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and SAMSHA information resources. The feature film screening is sponsored and paid for by Region 6 but will be made available to all NNLM regions, offices and centers.

Following the film screening and panel discussion, NNLM Region 6 will identify interested community partners in our seven-state region to collaboratively host the educational version of Addict’s Wake. Four (4) film screenings will be scheduled between October 2024 and April 2025. Each film screening will be customized for the specific community’s needs and at-risk population. Community partners will use the IRB-approved Participant Activity Survey (PAS) developed by the National Evaluation Office (NEO) NNLM to get feedback from audience members to inform the development and improvement for each community program.
