| Introduction to APHA’s Climate & Health Youth Education Toolkit for Programming, Engagement and Education | April 14, 2026 | April 14, 2026 | This webinar provides an overview of the climate and health education curriculum and resources developed by the American Public Health Association (APHA) Children’s Environmental Health Committee. It can be used by public health practitioners, librarians, teachers, and other professionals for educational programming, youth engagement, and as an interactive activity. The presenters will share best practices for implementing and adapting the toolkit. Speaker Information Leyla Erk McCurdy, MPhil, is the founder and chair of the American Public Health Association’s Children’s Environmental Health Committee. She has over 20 years of experience in environmental public health, and has been leading the efforts to develop and to advocate for APHA’s Climate and Health Youth Education Toolkit. Karin Russ is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) and an Apprentice Mediator at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law’s Alternate Dispute Resolution Center. She is an active member of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments (ANHE), the Maryland Public Health Association’s Healthy Climate Maryland committee, and the Maryland Nurses Association. She was formerly the Course Director for Community & Public Health Nursing at the Universities at Shady Grove, teaching classes in health policy and advocacy, and developing electives on health policy engagement, and climate change and health. Prof. Russ hold a Juris Doctorate degree from the Carey School of Law, and earned dual specialty certificates in Environmental Law, and in Law and Health Care. Becky Larson, DrPH, MS, MA, RD, is Assistant Professor at the Augusta University School of Public Health. Dr. Larson has many years of experience teaching public and environmental health and food systems and nutrition, providing students community-engaged learning experiences, including project and problem-based learning. Cordalia Peters, BSPH, is a public health graduate from Mercer University and has experience using the APHA’s Climate and Health Youth Education Toolkit.
