Cultivating Bioinformatics and Data Support Services in Academic Medical Centers

This class is no longer accepting registrations

A discussion about the results of an assessment in New England and New York medical libraries and how to help libraries build or expand research data and bioinformatics support services within their institutions.

The webinar will:

  • Describe research data and bioinformatics and the relevance of supporting these expanding areas in the biomedical sciences from the library
  • Provide information, a methodology, and results from a regional assessment of these topics
  • Create awareness of bioinformatics and research data service trends happening within academic medical libraries
  • Initiate a conversation with other librarians and administrators about barriers and motivators to providing these services

Biomedical sciences have become data-intensive with an increasing use of high-throughput technologies including next generation sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, and imaging. Clinicians also use these methodologies in precision medicine to understand, diagnose, treat, and predict the outcome of diseases based on individual genetic and environmental factors. In this webinar we will present the results of an assessment on the status of library bioinformatics and data services in academic medical centers in New England and New York to expand awareness of trends in the provision of specialized services in libraries. We will discuss perceived barriers and motivators to providing library services to support advances in biomedical science and answer questions about our project and our experiences. We will leave ample time for Q&A and discussion.
