SIU Medical Librarys 3D Printing Program

The SIU Medical Library would like to purchase a 3D printer to create anatomical models for physicians and surgeons in SIUs 9 Clinical Science Departments in Springfield, IL. The models could be used prior to a procedure to train residents working in the clinics, to educate current medical school students about basic anatomy or particular health conditions, and to educate patients about their condition or promote wellness. Print files from the National Institute of Healths 3D Print Exchange https://3dprint.nih.gov/ as well as those from SIU Physicians would be used. Established in 1970, the mission of SIU School of Medicine is to assist the people of central and southern Illinois in meeting their health care needs through education, patient care, research and service to the community. This project will support the Schools overall mission as well as the Librarys mission to provide faculty, staff, and students with the resources they need to advance medical education.
