Melissa Rethlefsen, MSLS, AHIP

Melissa L. Rethlefsen, MSLS, AHIP is the Interim Executive Director, Knowledge Management and Eccles Health Sciences Library, Filling the roles vacated by Jean Shipman, who retired in August, 2017, Rethlefsen will continue to build on the strong regional and national legacy.

Rethlefsen led the Research Reproducibility 2016 conference, and she continues to work across the University of Utah campus to improve research reproducibility. She is also the Section Director for the Center for Clinical & Translational Science’s Systematic Review Core and an adjunct instructor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.

She has a rich background in health sciences librarianship and leadership within the institution and her profession. She is currently a member of the Medical Library Association (MLA) Board of Directors, and is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals. In 2016, she was awarded the prestigious National Library of Medicine/Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries Leadership Fellowship. She received the Estelle Brodman Award for Academic Medical Librarian of the Year in 2015, and she was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2009. Her primary research interests are systematic review methodology and reporting, and bibliometrics.
