Emergency Preparedness Special Advisory Group

NOTE:  On May 1, 2013, the Emergency Preparedness Regional Advisory Committee was renamed the Emergency Preparedness Special Advisory Group, a streamlined and informal group.

The Emergency Preparedness Special Advisory Group (EP-SAG) is a standing group of the NN/LM SE/A regional advisory committee (RAC) structure. The group is comprised of a representative from each state in the region, with one person serving as chair and representing the Group on the RAC Oversight Committee. The SE/A outreach/access coordinator is the ex-officio member and serves as the liaison to the group. The SE/A executive director appoints group members to a three-year term. The group may virtually meet, as needed, and will maintain an electronic process to conduct business.

Group Charge:
The Emergency Preparedness SAG will provide leadership in promoting emergency preparedness, continuity of service and follow-up reporting for emergency or disaster events affecting network members within their jurisdictions. Group members will:

  1. Assist the SE/A with developing and implementing a regional emergency preparedness plan to ensure continuity of service for Network members.
  2. Serve as central coordinators for emergency preparedness activities in the state, District or territory:
  3. Recommend improvements and/or new avenues for the SE/A to promote and deliver emergency preparedness/disaster recovery support to Network members.
    1. Promote emergency preparedness in individual libraries.
    2. Know who network members are and maintain a method of communication with them.
    3. When necessary, work as part of the local emergency response to ensure continuation of services and recovery to affected Network member(s).
    4. Provide the SE/A office with follow-up and reporting of events following a man-made or natural disaster to include a description of the incident, the response, follow-up activities, and lessons learned.
    5. These incidents should be reported in a timely manner, usually within 24hours, or by the end of the next business day.
    6. Be familiar with some of the key NLM disaster resources and how to access them
