Description: This presentation will offer a definition of patient safety as well as introduce the topic of high-reliability in healthcare. External drivers influencing patient safety, mainly in new models of payment as well as educational/regulatory concerns will also be discussed.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Thomas Ciesielski currently holds the positions of Associate Program Director for Curriculum Development, Director of the Medicine Preliminary and Neurology Track, and Director of Patient Safety Education and the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) program for the Graduate Medical Education (GME) consortium at the Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Ciesielski received his doctorate in medicine from Oregon Health and Science University in 2010 and served his residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where he also completed a research fellowship on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement in conjunction with Washington University. He is active on a number of hospital and university committees regarding patient safety and has published several works on the subject, including two chapters in The Washington Manual of Patient Safety and Quality Improvement released earlier this year.

This webinar will be available for 1 hour of Medical Library Association (MLA) Continuing Education credit and will be archived for future viewing.
