Serial Holdings in DOCLINE

The Serial Holdings component of DOCLINE is based on SERHOLD, a national holdings database for health and related serial titles. These serial holdings data are used for routing requests in DOCLINE. They can also be used to create union lists and appear as part of the OCLC WorldCat record for many libraries. DOCLINE users are responsible for keeping their libraries' serial holdings up-to-date.

Libraries that are new to the system: after you have received your userid and password for using the DOCLINE system, you will key in the information about your serials holdings. After that, you may update your holdings records at any time at that same site -- and you should plan to update your records at least once a year.

It is quite important that your library's serial holdings data be kept up-to-date so that DOCLINE routes requests to you correctly. More accurate holdings data mean you'll receive fewer requests for items you do not own. By utilizing DOCLINE's Embargo feature, you can indicate which titles have embargo periods during which they cannot be used for interlibrary loan. The system will not route request to you that you can't fill for this reason. You can view the holdings listed for your library in DOCLINE by clicking on the Serial Holdings tab and then selecting the Reports function.

If you have new titles that are not in DOCLINE's Serial Holdings, that means they are not listed in LOCATORplus. To suggest these titles for addition to LOCATORplus, fill out a NLM LOCATORplus Bibliographic Data Addition/Modification Form -- one for each new title -- and send it to NLM (the address is on the form).
