In November 2017, Library Journal published an article featuring NNLM's multiple initiatives with PLA and ALA focused on health literacy and public libraries.

The NNLM - Public Library Association (PLA) partnership, “Promoting Healthy Communities,” runs from September 2017 through April 2018 and addresses low health literacy through a website, podcasts, webinars, conferences, and tailored trainings for public library staff. The article also highlights how NNLM representatives and public librarians are dedicated to creating useful health-related materials, such as the American Library Association's (ALA) Libraries Transform Health Literacy Toolkit, launched in September 2017.
