Copyright Management Courses

The Special Library Association is offering a multi-course experience that covers copyright law and compliance, copyright policy development, considerations for social media and other digital resources, copyright implications in the global economy, issues that may arise in your information center, and much more. The intro course begins Tuesday, January 8, 2013. The series continues with one course per month.  Instructor Lesley Ellen Harris of brings her years of copyright experience to this virtual classroom. Non-SLA members can register for a higher per course fee.

December Issue of NIH News in Health Now Available

The December 2012 issue of NIH News in Health is now available online. In this issue: develop strategies to counteract the effects of sitting, understand carbohydrates by learning about glycemic load and index, and improving COPD detection. [da]

MEDLINE Updates and Changes

There were many updates and changes to MEDLINE in 2012, with more to come in 2013.

A few highlights:

  1. 302 new MeSH headings
  2. 56 MeSH headings changed or deleted
  3. Personal Narratives reintroduced as a new Publication Type
  4. Author replies will be assigned a separate citation
  5. Grant numbers will include a two-letter grand code with associated organization abbreviations
  6. Identifier, formerly NameID provides a unique identifier associated with the author, corporate author, or investigator name

New NLM Resources for Toxicologists and Laboratory Safety

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Specialized Information Services (SIS) has released “Especially for Toxicologists,” a guide to NLM resources on environmental health, toxicology, and chemical information for toxicologists.

A new Enviro-Health Links – “Laboratory Safety” page offers links to information for clinical, academic and school laboratories, including resources for handling chemical, biological and nanotechnology safely. Also included are links to regulations and policy, hazard analysis, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), waste management, and pre-formulated TOXNET and PubMed searches. [da]
