Hospital-based education using audience response technology
Our primary objective is to increase active learning during group educational sessions for hospital-based clinicians, thereby engaging learners more effectively and increasing knowledge retention after sessions are completed. Secondarily, we may use the same method to increase active learning during and knowledge retention after educational sessions for patients and families, and for non-clinical staff. The method is to use audience response technology during educational sessions. A number of papers, studies and case reports (see Appendix 1 - Bibliography) suggest that incorporating audience response systems into medical and nursing education can increase the effectiveness of the training. Outcomes after implementation of the method would be that more appropriate training is given, tailored to the needs and experiences of the individuals in the group being trained, and that knowledge retention is improved due to the active learning that took place.
