Fortune 100 Best Places to Work for the 4th year in row …  seeks candidates for the position of library manager.   This dynamic, highly-motivated individual will supervise all operations of the Shinn-Lathrop Health Sciences Library.   The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and directing library operations including establishing goals, monitoring statistics, developing work plans, managing financial resources, developing and administering the budget, representing the library on medical center committees, supervising the library’s personnel, overseeing maintenance of the library website and will demonstrate experience with collection development, cataloging, classification and document delivery systems.  This candidate will possess extensive knowledge of print and electronic health sciences reference materials, extensive experience in expert searching of MEDLINE and other health-related databases, and facility with Microsoft products. Excellent communication, written, and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated individual and team leadership skills are required.

Master’s Degree in Information or Library Science from an ALA accredited institution required, Academy of Health information Professionals certification preferred and at least five years progressively responsible leadership experience in a health sciences library environment required.

Learning Space Toolkit Launches

We are happy to announce the release of the Learning Space Toolkit (

The Learning Space Toolkit is a freely available resource designed to support the full lifecycle of a learning space design project, from defining the goals and needs to designing the space to supporting it.  By using the Toolkit, institutions will be better equipped to orchestrate the planning process so that learners are better supported and spaces, technology, and services are effective.  Watch this video ( for an overview.

National Medical Librarians Month Winner

MAR would like to congratulate the Schaffer Library of Health Sciences at Albany Medical College. One of their librarians submitted an entry that was randomly selected in the MAR National Medical Librarians Month Contest to receive an award for registration and airfare to MLA 2013.
