New NLM Deputy Chief, Public Services Division
It is my pleasure to announce the selection of Ms. Loren Frant for the position of Deputy Chief, Public Services Division.
Loren came to NLM as an Associate Fellow in September 2004, and gained excellent experience from the curriculum, and by working on three very different associate projects: 1) researching best practices in digital archives and repositories; 2) creating a plan for end-user satisfaction with NLM’s Profiles in Science Web site; and 3) testing NLM’s automated intelligence agent, Cosmo, for its ability to respond to customer emails via Siebel.
Following her associate year, Loren accepted a position in PSD’s Reference and Web Services Section as a systems librarian where she led a team of librarians delivering web site redesigns and database improvements. She served as the technical lead for MedlinePlus, which qualified her to be selected to be Head of the Health Information Products Unit in 2008, a position she has held since then. As the Head of this unit, Loren has been the lead for all MedlinePlus strategic decisions, and she has directed the operations of related products and services, including MedlinePlus, MedlinePlus en español, MedlinePlus Connect, and MedlinePlus web services.
Ms. Frant is a wonderful emissary and spokesperson for the library. She has presented on MedlinePlus, and MedlinePlus Connect on numerous occasions to the NLM BoR, the NLM Online Users Group at MLA, to other NIH Institutes, the Institute of Medicine, the HHS Web Council, and at the June 2011 and June 2012 Health Data Initiative Forums hosted by HHS.
Loren will assume her duties as Deputy Chief on July 1, 2012.
