Clinical Outreach Librarian
The Health Sciences Library (HSL) at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY invites applications for the position of Clinical Outreach Librarian. We seek an innovative and dynamic individual with demonstrated personnel and project management leadership abilities. This position emphasizes a commitment to the HSL team by engaging in superior internal and external customer service techniques to meet the current and emerging health information needs of the Upstate community.
This position reports to the Assistant Director for Customer Services and fosters a creative team-oriented work environment while developing liaison relationships in a variety of clinical settings. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating and providing clinical resource services within and among the hospitals and community medical providers, supervising staff and volunteers, integrating information technologies to enhance user services and collaborating with the departments of Access Services, Information Resources, ILL, and the Family Resource Center (located within the Golisano Children’s Hospital). The successful candidate provides vision and leadership in the development of new outreach programs and services for health professionals and consumers, evaluates existing services, procedures and policies, teaches library skills, contributes to evening and weekend coverage, creates structured learning opportunities and is actively engaged in professional organizations and development.
The successful candidate with be forward thinking, motivated, flexible, and excited to work in a collaborative, rapidly evolving team environment. S/he will exhibit the capacity to thrive in the fascinating, ambiguous, future-oriented environment of a regional medical system and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.
REQUIRED: ALA-accredited MLS or commensurate degree with academic health sciences, hospital and/or clinical experience; a minimum of three years of experience in a supervisory capacity with evidence of creative and successful team-building skills; demonstrated teaching skills and experience; experience using evidence based medicine resources; evidence of developing and implementing successful outreach programs or partnerships; demonstrated evidence of initiative and flexibility with planning and problem-solving, and proven ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively as both a team member and independently to promote teamwork amongst colleagues.
PREFERRED: Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) membership

SALARY & BENEFITS: Initial appointment will be at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian. Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications. Excellent benefits package includes TIAA-CREF and other retirement options. Twelve month, tenure track position with faculty status, entailing responsibilities for scholarship and professional service. Position is open until filled.
