Data Carpentry

Data Carpentry is a non-profit organization whose focus is to provide data literacy instruction to researchers. Data Carpentry workshops, based on the Software Carpentry workshop model, provide a hands-on, skill-building approach to teaching researchers data literacy and research data management skills while also building skills to work more effectively with data. The workshops are usually two days in length, domain specific, and follow a single data set through the whole process of organizing them in a simple data collection software, to exporting, to more powerful computational software, and demonstrating ways to automate some of the repetitive processes. This model of instruction has also inspired Library Carpentry workshops where software and data skills are taught to librarians.
