Genetic Testing in the Era of Genomic Sequencing
This presentation will include information on current genetic testing and genetic counseling practices, with a focus on the implementation of new sequencing technologies into clinical medicine. Implications and ethical considerations for both clinical and direct to consumer genetic tests will be discussed.

Laura Amendola is a research genetic counselor and clinical associate professor in the University of Washington, Division of Medical Genetics. She has expertise in adult genetics, specifically hereditary cancer, and her research focuses on the return of genomic sequencing results and the interpretation of genomic variants. Ms. Amendola graduated from Queen's University, in Ontario Canada, with a B.S. in biology and psychology and received her M.S. in genetic counseling from the University of Texas, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. She is board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Before coming to the University of Washington, Ms. Amendola spent two years as a clinical genetic counselor in an adult, pediatric and prenatal genetics clinic in central Texas.
