Gain knowledge and tools to provide accessible customer service in your library by joining us for this one-hour webinar! This presentation will give an overview of disability including appropriate terminology, creating an accessible environment, and evaluating current practices for way-finding, emergency preparedness, and web resources. Other topics include budgeting for accessibility, accessible employment, specific service needs, potential partner organizations, and a plethora of tips and resources for future use.

Presenter: Valerie Lewis began as the Assistive Technology Specialist for the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. In 2002, she became the Administrator of Outreach Services and the Director of the Long Island Talking Book Library, a sub-regional library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, until the sub-regional was merged into the regional Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library in 2012. Ms. Lewis has a background in demonstrating and training people how to use various types of assistive technology, primarily for people living with vision loss. Ms. Lewis provides continuing education and accessibility compliance resources to the 56 member libraries in Suffolk County, NY. Ms. Lewis works with the member libraries, county agencies and non-profit organizations in an effort to bring a wide variety of resources and training materials that assist public libraries in best serving the individual needs of their community.
