Resources for Community Health Workers

Class Details

Community Health Workers (CHWs) play an important role in connecting their communities with healthcare and services. This session will provide information about how Community Health Workers can link their community with quality health information using resources from the National Library of Medicine. In addition to appropriate information tools for CHWs, the audience will learn about projects that have put NLM resources to use in CHW training and community education. Guest speaker, Elizabeth Schaffer, MPH, MS, CHES will join to discuss how she integrated MedlinePlus into a 100-hour CHW training program.

Presenter: Elizabeth Schaffer, MPH, MS, CHES is a public health professional from Pennsylvania. She has over 10 years of experience as a Health Educator and Public Health Professional. As a Health Educator for Northeast & Eastcentral PA Area Health Education Center (AHEC), her experience includes developing curriculum, facilitating and evaluating public health programs as well as presenting at state conferences. Elizabeth developed the Community Health Worker Training program for the Eastcentral PA AHEC in 2009. Elizabeth has experience as a Mental Health Targeted Case Manager and is a trainer for the Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid program. She also is an adjunct professor for Northampton Community College & Keystone College. Her areas of interest include health literacy and mental health.
