Health Professionals Loan Repayment and Forgiveness Programs

Health Workforce Information Center – This website offers an overview and explanation of various loan repayment and forgiveness programs for health care professionals.

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is the largest organization involved in loan repayment programs. The Corps is a federal organization under the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The purpose of the organization is to improve health care access for underserved and vulnerable populations. To do so, NHSC provides financial support, in the form of loan repayment assistance and scholarships, to health care professionals who are passionate about providing care in underserved areas and to vulnerable populations.

Programs that assist health professionals in relieving their education debt are known as loan repayment or loan forgiveness programs. These programs usually require certain obligations by the participating health professional, the most common of which is to serve in an area where there are not enough providers available for the population.
