Invitation To Host A Diasporas Conversation
The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) is pleased to share news of an exciting new diaspora engagement effort, *Diasporas@*, initiated by the Department of State in connection with the upcoming Secretary’s Global Diaspora Forum (GDF), to be held on July 25-26, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
Diasporas@ uses a TEDs-type platform of independent and interactive community-level engagement to inspire and challenge diaspora communities to deepen their level of engagement with their countries of origin or heritage. ORR wholly supports these efforts, having witnessed the benefit of such engagement among refugee communities from Vietnam, Liberia, and South Sudan, to name just a few, as these countries emerge and recover from years of war and turmoil. For most refugees, the notion of “home” – however it is defined – is one constant in an ever-changing journey. Whether they are community leaders or philanthropists, entrepreneurs or artists, or anything in between, the people of diaspora communities have significant ideas and insight to share with the world, and the ability to help make life better for all through their sharing.
Your are invited to host an event in your city to coincide with Secretary Clinton’s keynote speech on July 25, 2012. The Office of Refugee Resettlement encourages your participation and support in spreading the word about Diasporas@ within your local communities, and look forward to hearing about the events you create.
For information regarding how to host a forum (minimum of 20 people) on July 25, 2012, please email firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
