Website Usability: Making Content Easy to Find

Course Outline

  • Introduction (Introduce instructor, introduce students, course outline and materials, facilities, computers, classroom) - 10 minutes
  • Pretest - 10 minutes
  • Basic usability concepts (ie, what is usability, anyway?) - 20 minutes
  • Basic accessibility concepts (why it's important, what kinds of accessibility to be concerned about, web features that can be problematic to various groups, etc.) -- 20 minutes
  • Break - 15 minutes
  • Major sources of information about usability and accessibility (The really good stuff, mainly websites but also a few print works) - 15 minutes
  • Important ways to study usability (including inexpensive methods you can do yourself) - 15 minutes
  • Gain experience in analyzing websites for aspects of usability and accessibility (discussion session/activity) - 40 minutes
  • Break - 15 minutes
  • Gain experience in planning a usability study (small group activity with reporting back to the large group) - 45 minutes
  • Question and answer - 15 minues
  • Posttest - 10 minutes
  • Evaluation / wrap-up / CE certificates - 10 minutes
