Borrowing includes obtaining copies of articles and also obtaining original items (such as books or audiovisuals).

When you request copies of articles, use the Unique Key or PubMed borrowing options if possible. These options are based on NLM bibliographic information about serials, which is linked to DOCLINE Serial Holdings. That link ties into DOCLINE libraries' holdings information and enables DOCLINE's automatic routing to function.

When you request original items, such as books or audiovisuals, use the Unique Key or LOCATORplus options if possible. These options retrieve complete bibliographic information for you from NLM's catalog so that you don't have to type it in by hand.

Use Manual borrowing only as a last resort. Manual borrowing is not linked to NLM bibliographic information nor to DOCLINE's automatic routing.
