NN/LM-SE/A Electronic Discussion List

The nnlm-sea electronic discussion list is operated by the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Region (NN/LM SE/A) and the University of Maryland Baltimore . The list serves as a communications tool for the NN/LM SE/A staff and network members; as a method for distributing information and electronic files from the SE/A and/or the National Library of Medicine and members; and as a forum for network members to discuss topics of regional interest. Examples of topics that we will be discussing include: network membership, DOCLINE, SERHOLD, the Internet, grant information, workshops and presentations, and forthcoming events among others.

The nnlm-sea electronic discussion list is maintained using the ListProc, mailing list manager software. Once you have subscribed to the nnlm-sea electronic mailing list, you will automatically receive messages sent to the list by other members. The ListProc has two addresses: listproc@address handles administrative details such a subscribing and unsubscribing; listname@address is used when you want to send a message to the entire nnlm-sea group for discussion.

Think of the listproc as the subscription office of a newspaper and the list name as the editorials office. You would not send your request to extend your subscription to the editorial office address. If you did, they may send it over to the subscription office in a newspaper, but on an electronic mailing list the request is sent out to EVERY subscriber as if it is a message for discussion. Keep the newspaper example in mind and you'll do fine!

Do NOT fill in the subject line or include signature files
In the message area, type:

subscribe nnlm-sea your email address your first name your last name

For example if Chris Smith were to subscribe to the nnlm-sea list it would look like this:

subscribe nnlm-sea chrissmith@umnet.umaryland.edu Chris Smith

NOTE: We have not set up electronic mail links from this page because some mailing list software checks the host address of the subscribe message and will only take unsubscribe messages from the same host name. This would mean that a person using a different host for the unsubscribe message would not be able to remove her/himself from the list. To avoid this problem use the electronic mail client that you use to read the majority of your electronic mail to send the subscribe message.
