Position: Emerging Technologies/Evaluation Coordinator, National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Regional Medical Library (NN/LM, SE/A, RML)

Location: Health Sciences and Human Services Library University of Maryland Baltimore

Salary: Range $55,000 to $62,000

Description: The Emerging Technologies/Evaluation Coordinator oversees the development of technology and evaluative programs in the SE/A. This position develops technology and evaluation projects to improve information access to health professionals and health consumers in the region and assess the effectiveness of these and other SE/A programs.  This position reports to the Executive Director.

  • Identifies needs and develops programs that focus on the technology needs of health professionals, librarians and the public identified by NLM as high priorities such as unaffiliated health professionals, inner city health professionals, minority health professionals, public health workforce, public and health science librarians, health consumers, etc.

  • Develops materials for inclusion on the NN/LM and SE/A web sites.

  • Designs new technologies training classes and materials to meet the educational needs of Network members, health professionals, and health consumers.

  • Monitors current technological trends and policy developments to identify those that will improve access to biomedical information by SE/A members, health care professionals and the public.

  • Assists SE/A members, health professionals and health consumers with technology questions, connecting to NLM products and services, and obtaining optimum connectivity.

  • Assists in the identification of libraries needing assistance in developing their technological capabilities and establishes a methodology for doing so.

  • Works closely with the outreach coordinators to exhibit NLM’s electronic resources at national and state meetings of health professionals, librarians and the public.

  • Assists in the planning, promotion and coordination of technology projects and technology awareness programs in the region.

  • Writes articles on technology and assessment for the regional electronic newsletter.

  • Participates in the development, evaluation and testing of NN/LM and NLM products and services.

  • Along with the executive director and other SE/A staff, represents the NN/LM throughout the region.

  • Presents information about NN/LM programs in training sessions, demonstrations, association meetings, exhibits, and other events.

  • Promotes communication throughout the region by providing feedback and evaluation on products/services and products, participating in teleconferences and attending scheduled meetings.

  • Develops goals and objectives in consultation with other SE/A staff for programs related to improving skills and building capacity for outreach planning, assessment, and evaluation. Monitor and report on progress toward meeting SE/A program goals and objectives.

  • Acts as a consultant to network members for planning, assessment, and evaluation activities and tools.

  • Develops training materials and coordinate instruction in the area of planning and evaluation for network members.

  • Develops and coordinates the use of evaluation instruments within the SE/A Office and serve as liaison to the NN/LM Outreach Evaluation Resource Center (OERC).

  • Acts as an internal consultant to SE/A staff related to use or planning and assessment tools and methods.

  • Coordinates SE/A efforts to enter project records and regional outreach activity and exhibit data into the national outreach database and act as the GMR liaison to the National Network Office (NNO) for these efforts.

  • Serves as liaison to the recipients of express planning and assessment awards, express library technology improvement awards, express library digitization and conservation awards, community technology and improvement awards, Information technology and policy awareness awards, and express mobile technology project awards, monitoring progress of projects, assuring that reports are submitted and archived, and providing instruction and assistance with OARF data entry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: ALA accredited MLS; three years library experience preferably in the health sciences; demonstrated teaching and training experience; demonstrated excellent writing skills; experience with Internet-based tools and resources; demonstrated experience with information access technologies; familiarity with connecting to online information sources using various methods; extensive travel; able to set-up exhibit/computer equipment. Valid driver’s license.

This position requires demonstrated experience and scholarship sufficient to be eligible for appointment at the rank of Librarian II under the University of Maryland Baltimore Criteria and Procedures relating to the Appointment, Promotion and Permanent Status for Librarian Faculty.

Preferred: Excellent interpersonal skills; experience with adult education; coursework in medical librarianship; good project management skills; familiarity with NLM products and services.

The Library supports the 6300 students, and over 7500 faculty and staff members on UMB's 60-acre research and technology complex of 58 buildings including the University of Maryland BioPark, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the VA Hospital.
