Ask Your Audience
Looking for a good way to engage with a presentation audience? Want to find out if your library instruction class was really paying attention? Why not poll them to find out?
There are several proprietary software options that allow built in polling for PowerPoint but a free option to consider for polling 40 people or less is Poll Everywhere. Poll Everywhere provides users with an easy online interface for creating polling questions. Polls can be multiple choice or open ended questions. Poll creators can decide how many times a user can submit a response and how users can participate in the poll. With Poll Everywhere a poll creator can open the poll up to response via text message, Twitter, personalized online URL or even through a private URL. With Poll Everywhere the multiple choice responses are assigned codes that the poll taker will have to provide in their text message, tweet or online submission.
Poll creators can also download the question as a .PPT or .PPTx slide and embed the poll slide into their presentation. Poll Everywhere provides additional tips and information about the multiple ways the audience can vote in the poll.
While the basic polling features a poll in dark blue and white, Poll Everywhere has included a few free themes to make your poll look more professional.
Poll Everywhere provides free accounts for a limited number of users and responses. The service does provide additional account options, some with educator discounts.
