Two Consumer Health Workshops at The Texas Medical Center Library

On October 5, 2011, the NN/LM SCR will be offering two free consumer health workshops back to back at the Texas Medical Center Library, Houston, TX. Both workshops are approved for MLA’s Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS).

 

 

8:30 am to 11:30 am – From Snake Oil to Penicillin: Evaluating Consumer Health Information on the Internet

  • This workshop presents criteria for evaluating health information on the Internet. It includes fun, hands-on exercises evaluating the quality of a variety of health websites.
  • Approved for MLA CHIS, Levels I and II

12:30 pm to 3:30 pm – Prescription for Success: Consumer Health on the Web

  • This introduction to consumer health information will cover a variety of reliable web pages from government and professional associations, including MedlinePlus, ClinicalTrials.gov and LabTests Online. It will cover sites devoted to pharmaceutical information for consumers, drug-interaction databases and herbal information.
  • Approved for MLA CHIS, Level I, non-health sciences
