Hurricane Season Begins June 1
June 1 marks the beginning of Hurricane Season. Is your community prepared? The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has added new resources to its web page Tools and Resources to Help Communities Prepare for Hurricane Season to help communities prepare for and respond to hurricane events and other natural disasters.
New additions this year include:
- Disaster Alternate Care Facilities: A report and interactive tools to select alternate care facilities and decide which patients to send to them.
- Hospital Evacuation Decision Guide: Know what factors to consider before making the decision to evacuate a facility, shelter in place or reassess as the situation unfolds.
- Hospital Assessment and Recovery Guide: A guide and checklist to assess hospital infrastructure to determine if it is safe for staff and patients to return to a facility.
- The Essentials: Mass Medical Care with Scarce Resources: Know the essential elements to consider when providing pre-hospital, hospital, alternative, and palliative care with scarce resources.
Other tools featured on the web page offer assistance with issues such as caring for children, transporting patients from one facility to another, nursing home needs, reopening shuttered hospitals to meet surge demand and using community call centers for crisis support.
