Community Preparedness Day Award Recipients Announced
The NN/LM SCR is pleased to announce the two recipients of the Community Preparedness Day award.
Institution: Gila Regional Medical Center/Grant County Community Health Council, Silver City NM
Project Title: Ready, Set, Safe Grant County
Principal Investigator: Beverly Allen-Ananins
Summary: The Grant County Community Health Council/GCCHC Health Information Library, in partnership with the Bayard and Silver City Public Libraries, will hold a one day event, “Ready, Set, Safe Grant County: Preparing your Home and Family for Emergencies.” At the event, community residents may obtain information and resources and participate in activities concerning preparedness for a variety of emergencies, including wild land/urban interface fires, and in-home isolation/delayed response from emergency personnel. Additionally, free emergency preparedness materials will be available through library displays at each of the three libraries.
Institution: Vermilion Parish Library, Abbeville LA
Project Title: Emergency Awareness Week: Make a Plan, Take a Stand, Be Ready, Vermilion
Project Manager: Genevieve Vaughn
Summary: Vermilion Parish Library will hold a week-long program of events designed to promote emergency awareness for the general public of the community, as well as specific targeted activities to better serve the emergency needs of some of the underserved populations of the community: seniors, homebound, children and immigrant populations. Outreach activities will occur in all of the churches and senior care facilities in the community, events, presentations and workshops throughout the community as well as a free-to-the-public Be Ready Vermilion Day, featuring information and activities to inform the public while increasing their emergency awareness.
