Hello from Cheryl, New Public Health Outreach Coordinator
Hello, everyone! My name is Cheryl Rowan, and I am the new Public Health Outreach Coordinator for the NN/LM South Central Region. I started in this position on June 15th.
Some of my job responsibilities will include: developing outreach programs targeted to public health professionals designed to generate interest in NLM databases and services; conducting workshops and classes on NLM databases; and developing and implementing health information outreach efforts to refugees and other underserved population groups. I will also serve as the Texas liaison.
Prior to beginning this position, I worked as an assistant for the Information Services department at the Houston Academy of Medicine – Texas Medical Center Library. I have also worked at the Midland County Public Library, Midland, TX, and as a library assistant for both Midland ISD and Humble ISD. I received a Master of Science degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas College of Information. I also hold a B.S. degree in Biology from Wheaton College, IL, and a certification in Medical Technology from the Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology, Rockford, IL.
Outside of work, much of my time is spent with my husband and children (ages 24, 22, and 17). I enjoy walking, bike riding, canoeing, traveling, reading, and cooking (both with them and alone!).
I am very excited to be here at the NN/LM SCR, and look forward to the challenges ahead. I look forward to working with and for you, and I also hope to be able to meet many of you personally in the not-too-distant future. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, or concerns.
