Year 02 NN/LM SCR Library Technology Award Announced
Congratulations to Michael Watson, MD, MLS at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Medical Library, Shreveport LA! The Medical Library at the LSU Health Sciences Center proposed a technology project with the dual purpose of improving interlibrary loan services and the library’s digitization/preservation programs. Both components will be addressed by the acquisition of a modern face-up document scanner. This scanner will extend and improve interlibrary loan operations by rapidly creating high-quality document images for transmission on interlibrary loan networks, thereby advancing the technological infrastructure in the interlibrary loan department. In addition, the scanner will facilitate expansion of the library’s digital archiving and preservation programs through the digitization of larger-format documents and facilitation of a higher volume of scanning.
The purpose of the Library Technology Award is to assist full Network member libraries in the NN/LM SCR that are interested in implementing large-scale technology applications to further encourage library improvement and expansion of library services: http://nnlm.gov/scr/funding/librarytech_award.html
