NN/LM SCR Funding

There are two funding cycles in each year of the 2006-2011 RML Contract: Fall and Spring Cycles. There are two major reasons for dividing funding opportunities each year in this Contract:

  1. To level the NN/LM SCR and NLM workload in reviewing proposals and making awards. The NN/LM SCR makes approximately 35-40 new awards each year. It takes a considerable amount of “human resources” to make this number of awards.
  2. To provide Network members with opportunities to apply for awards at various times of the year, which may better fit their schedules. In previous RML Contracts, the NN/LM SCR made all awards available at the beginning of our contract year, i.e. shortly after May 1. When Network member input was solicited for the 2006-2011 RML Proposal, several Network members commented that the timing of our award availability did not always meet their schedules.

The Fall Cycle schedule and awards are:

    • 1 June: Date by which Fall Cycle Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Call for Applications (CFAs) will be posted on the NN/LM SCR Funding section of the website, and will be announced on Blogadillo and the NNLMSCR listserv.
    • 1 July: Due date for Letters of Intent (where applicable; check the RFP/CFA)
    • 1 August: Due date for all proposals and applications for the Fall Cycle
    • Currently includes the following awards:
    • Access to Electronic Consumer Health Information (AECHI) RFP
    • Internet Access Improvement Project (IAIP) CFA
    • Library Technology Award RFP
    • Partners in Public Health Information Outreach RFP
    • Professional Development Award CFA

The Spring Cycle schedule and awards are:

    • Summer-Fall: RFPs and CFAs will be posted on the NN/LM SCR Funding section of the website, and will be announced on Blogadillo and on the NNLMSCR listserv. (Note: While the Spring Cycle awards may post well in advance of the due date, review for these awards will not begin until after the 1 February proposal and application due date (see below).
    • 2 January: Due date for Letters of Intent (where applicable; check the RFP/CFA)
    • 1 February: Due date for all proposals and applications for the Spring Cycle
    • Currently includes the following awards:
    • Course Development Award CFA
    • DOCLINE Library Internet Project (DLIP) CFA
    • Express Outreach Award CFA
    • Mobile Health Education Project (MHEP) CFA

There are two awards that will have open funding dates. Applications and proposals will be accepted until the funding is exhausted:

    • Regional Symposium Award CFA (to be posted by June 1)

Renée Bougard, Associate Director, and Karen Vargas, Consumer Health Outreach Coordinator, have recently developed a Guide to Awardees http://nnlm.gov/scr/outreach/subcontractorsguide.html to assist Network members with the application process and award management.

We encourage all Network members in the South Central Region to review the funding opportunities, and to consider submitting an application or proposal. Please let me know if you have questions regarding the two funding cycles, or about any of the awards.
