Advisory Committees

squarePublic Health Advisory Committe

The NN/LM SCR recognizes the crucial role the public health workforce plays in improving the health of the public. The Public Health Advisory Committee will assist the NN/LM SCR in enhancing its health information programming for the public health workforce, in particular with regard to:

  • Development of a needs assessment instrument for distribution to public health workers throughout the South Central Region
  • Training topics and methods
  • Improvements to funding opportunities offered by the NN/LM SCR
  • Collaboration possibilities between public health departments, public libraries, health science libraries, emergency and first responders, and health-related community-based organizations
  • Support of public health departments’ technology needs to improve access to online health information and support evidence-based practice

squarePublic Library Advisory Committee

Public librarians play an important role in assisting the public in locating health information. The Public Library Council will assist the NN/LM SCR in enhancing its health information programming for public libraries, in particular with regard to:

  • Training topics and methods
  • Improvements to funding opportunities offered by the NN/LM SCR
  • Collaboration possibilities between public librarians and hospitals, health science libraries, emergency responders, and health-related community-based organizations
  • Support of public libraries’ technology needs to improve access to online health information

squareSchool Library Advisory Committee

The NN/LM SCR recognizes the important role school libraries and librarians can play in providing health information resources to students, teachers, parents, and families of K-12 students. The School Library Advisory Committee will assist the NN/LM SCR in enhancing its health information programming for K-12 school libraries, in particular with regard to:

  • Increasing awareness of National Library of Medicine and NN/LM resources to K-12 school librarians
  • Development of a needs assessment instrument for distribution to K-12 school librarians throughout the South Central Region
  • Training topics and methods
  • Improvements to funding opportunities offered by the NN/LM SCR
  • Collaboration possibilities between school libraries, public libraries, health science libraries, and health- and science-related community-based organizations

Committee Members

squareHospital Library Advisory Committee

The committee will assist the NN/LM SCR in improving services to hospital librarians in the Region. It is a formal venue for networking and providing feedback on how to increase visibility of hospital libraries in the SCR. This committee will also provide guidance on potential pilot programs for the Region’s hospital libraries. The hospital library committee will also:

  • Advise the NN/LM SCR on ways to develop and implement outreach programs to hospital libraries;
  • Advise the NN/LM SCR in establishing regional priorities, policies and procedures, including the development and implementation of a regional emergency preparedness plan, and reviewing regional programs as they pertain to hospital libraries; and
  • Develop plans to encourage hospital librarians to participate actively in regional and national programs affecting the delivery of health information.
