Emerging Technologies Coordinator

Position Description:

Serves as the technology advisor for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region (NN/LM SCR). Coordinates, promotes and implements technology based services to the region. Identifies emerging technologies that will assist regional stakeholders in providing services to their communities. The Emerging Technologies Coordinator will assess regional technological information needs, provide technical support and instruction to network members, assist other coordinators with technology issues and serve as the webmaster for the NN/LM SCR website. The Emerging Technologies Coordinator will be assigned to provide liaison services and management of sub-award recipient contracts and to the resource libraries within the states of New Mexico and Louisiana. Job duties include course development, classroom instruction and virtual instruction. This position will serve as the subject liaison to the region in the areas of technology, emerging technologies, e-Science, big data and program planning.

The incumbent reports to the Executive Director and the position is funded through a 5-year cooperative agreement (2016-2021) with the National Library of Medicine (NLM).

The Regional Medical Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region (NN/LM SCR) operates under a five year cooperative agreement (UG4) with the National Library of Medicine to provide outreach and educational services throughout the states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico. The mission of the NN/LM is to advance the progress of medicine and improve public health through increased access to health information and training.

To accomplish this mission, staff members develop and promote a wide assortment of free classes. Numerous outreach subcontracts are awarded to network member libraries and community based organizations to provide training to health professionals and consumers. Funding is provided to network members for computer equipment, Internet access, and training.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Serves as technology advisor for the South Central Region (SCR) of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine
* Coordinates, promotes, and implements technology based services to the region
* Assesses regional technological information needs
* Provides technical support and instruction to network members
* Researches and educates regional stakeholders in emerging trends in e-science, big data and data management
* Identifies and promotes NLM funding opportunities throughout the region
* Serves as the webmaster for the NN/LM SCR website
* Serves as the liaison to the NN/LM Web Services Office
* Ensures the viability of SCR communications and instructional technologies (e.g. Blog, listserv, web conferencing systems, course management systems)
* Identifies grant and funding opportunities for technology programs
* Reviews proposals and helps complete applications for technology funding
* Promote the roles of libraries and institutions that have received or are seeking CTSA awards with a focus on community engagement
* Serves as state liaison to Louisiana and New Mexico
* Identifies, establishes and maintains relationships with LA and NM network members
* Establishes and maintains relationships with LA and NM minority populations, and healthcare and information professionals (e.g., Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Indian Health Service, etc.)
* Works with resource library directors and designated outreach subcontract contacts to identify programmatic and service needs in LA and NM
* Plans and implements appropriate services and programming to meet the health information needs in LA and NM
* Develops resources and training on e-licensing issues that support the NN/LM mission
* Serves as the subject liaison to the region in the areas of technology, emerging technologies, e-Science, big data and program planning
* Monitors subcontracts, evaluates quarterly reports, and routinely provides feedback to NN/LM SCR
* Trains librarians, consumers, and healthcare professionals on NLM databases
* Develops and delivers distance education classes
* Develops course curriculum, content, and materials
* Assesses regional educational and information needs and assists with the development of programs
* Staffs exhibits at conferences or meetings
* Conducts presentations at conferences on NLM databases and NN/LM SCR services
* Communicates with network members via listservs, SCR blog and Facebook
* Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education:

ALA Accredited MLS or equivalent

Required Experience:

* Excellent presentation and course development skills
* Familiarity with library technology
* Familiarity with emerging technologies
* Web design and HTML experience
* Ability to work in a team environment
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* A valid driver's license and overnight travel is required

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Minimum of two years of relevant experience
* Understanding of trends within the field of e-Science
* Experience developing data management programs and initiatives
* Familiarity with emerging technology trends within the health sciences professions
* Discovery Product or Integrated Library Service (ILS) system migration experience
* Sharepoint administration experience
* Previous experience with a content management system (i.e. Drupal)

Health Professions Coordinator

Position Description:

The Health Professions Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine South Central Region (NN/LM SCR) coordinates outreach to health professionals within the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The Coordinator will develop outreach programs and services for health professionals with an emphasis on non-physician and allied health professionals. The Coordinator will use a variety of strategies to identify underserved health professionals with the goal of developing services to reach these audiences. The Coordinator will review program proposals and provide assistance to applicants seeking funding from the NN/LM SCR. The Health Professions Coordinator will be assigned to provide liaison services and management of sub-award recipient contracts and to the resource libraries within the states of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Job duties include course development, classroom instruction and virtual instruction. Courses will be developed for both librarian and health professional continuing education credit. This position will serve as the subject liaison to the region in the areas of program planning, evidence based practice, health literacy, NLM databases and assessment. Additional educational programming will be developed in other topical areas to meet the needs of regional stakeholders.

* Serves as state liaison to Arkansas and Oklahoma
* Establishes and maintains relationships with AR and OK minority populations, and healthcare and information professionals (e.g., Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Indian Health Service, etc.)
* Works with Resource Library Directors and designated outreach subcontract contacts to identify programmatic and service needs in AR and OK
* Plans and implements appropriate services and programming to meet the health information needs in AR and OK
* Serves as liaison to the NN/LM DOCLINE Coordination Office
* Serves on SCAMeL ILL Document Delivery Committee
* Monitors subcontracts, evaluates quarterly reports, and routinely provides feedback to NN/LM SCR
* Trains librarians, consumers, and healthcare professionals on NLM databases
* Develops and delivers distance education classes
* Develops course curriculum, content, and materials
* Notifies network members of new courses and course offerings
* Assesses regional educational and information needs and assists with the development of programs
* Staffs exhibits at conferences or meetings
* Participates in NN/LM SCR Hospital Library Advisory Committee meetings
* Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education:

ALA Accredited MLS or equivalent

Required Experience:

* Excellent presentation and course development skills
* Working knowledge of PubMed, MedlinePlus and other NLM databases
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Ability to work in a team environment
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* A valid driver's license and overnight travel is required

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Two years of relevant experience
* Experience defining and measuring learning outcomes
* Experience instructing clinicians in the use of decision support tools
* Experience serving as a liaison to a clinical department
* Knowledge of health profession's accreditation standards
* Knowledge of evidence based practice within the health professions
* Experience promoting library services and programs
