The "Infelicities Made Felicitous" List
(as of 6/10/2007)
Here's the list of "infelicities" identified and fixed so far
in QuickDOC 2.x:
(If your QuickDOC version is equal to or later than the Version "Fixed"
below, then you have that fix already)
Version 2.1.8 (Released 10 June 2007)
This update adds the ability to import OCLC requests from the OCLC Resource Sharing
Report.
Also fixes some minor (or less minor) infelicities, including:
- Fixes the problem where Copy Service items (meant to be billed separately) are also
included in later Local Patron or Department Invoices.
- Fixes the problem where Adding New Patrons (or Departments) generated an error message
if the x at the upper right of the window was clicked (rather than
the 'Cancel' button. Both methods will now work.
- Adds a blank line before any Comment line on an Invoice.
- Program now allows negative values (e.g., -5.00) to be added to Borrow and Lend Requests
to permit automatic computation of Charges (e.g., automatic charge of $5.00 minus
the negative value of -5.00 now equals what we want: 0.00.
Version 2.1.7 (Released 20 March 2006)
This update adds the ability to print Purchase Order Numbers on Library Invoices.
It also recognizes changes made in DOCLINE 2.7 and will display Rush and Urgent
Patient Care requests at the top of current grids, highlighted in yellow.
Also fixes some minor infelicities, including:
- Local Invoice Tables weren't properly reflecting the number of invoice items or the
Invoice Total after a request status was changed from InvPat or InvDep to Open on the
Local Billing Grid; these numbers are now properly recalculated in the database as well as
on the grid. (This normally didn't cause a problem because, once invoices were
printed, there was rarely a need to remove just one item, and in those cases where there
was, it was easier to just delete the entire invoice, edit the item, and then print a new
invoice. It still is the best way to go, but fixing this infelicity enables the
other method as well,)
- The Library Credit Table (tblCredits) now deletes the library line item when the credit
falls to 0. Previously, the line remained, with a 0.00 credit, which caused a
lookup, only to find nothing there. Same result, but more efficient to add the
library again if they should get another credit in the future.
- Fixed and infelicity that cause the creation of a Library called NLM ON from the line in
a Status/Cancel display on an LD Transferred item with the Routing Reason line containing
"Received by NLM on ...." Anyone with an NLM ON Library record should edit
the General Code on the Library Information form from NLM ON to MDUNLM and press Enter.
This will cause QD to ask whether you want to replace any NLM ON entries with
MDUNLM. Say yes.
For a complete description of changes and other added functionality in version 2.1.7,
print out a copy of the What's New in
Version 2.1.7 PDF file (QDNew217.pdf). It's about 9 pages long.
Version 2.1.6 (Released 29 November 2005)
This update adds 3 new Reports:
- Individual Library Detailed Report, accessible from either the Borrow or Lend grids.
- Individual Patron Detailed Report, accessible from any Borrow grid.
- Individual Department Detailed Report, accessible from any Borrow grid.
This version also saves the ISO Borrower Reference Number along with Patron Info, on
any request from an ISO Library, so that it can be included in invoices and EFTS uploads
(to help them locate the request they're paying for).
A new method for tracking MOVED QuickDOC.MDB databases. Please read that section (pp.
9-13) in the "What's New" document, below, for complete information. Best to
read this even before starting up 2.1.6 for the first time, in case your database has been
improperly marked as MOVED.
Also allows for QD to run on a system with no C: drive, something previously
impossible. 2.1.6 shifts saved import files to folders just beneath where the database is
located. Consequently, if you have no C: drive, you'll need to locate the QuickDOC.MDB
database before you try to save anything in QDPortal
Also fixes some minor infelicities in version 2.1.5, including:
- Checks for Loansome Doc Requests displayed in Status/Cancel that end at the Comments
field (or anywhere before the expected end of request).
- It's now possible to edit a title displayed as "Bmc pediatrics" to "BMC
pediatrics" (previously, they had appeared the same QuickDOC).
- Truncates Request Numbers beginning COPY (Copy Service) in Invoices and Reports to
prevent run-ons. Request Number COPY0511291 now prints as C...0511291 to save space.
- Also includes a new method for parsing new Loansome Doc names beginning with Mr., Dr.,
etc.
For a complete description of changes and other added functionality in versions 2.1.4
and 2.1.5, print out a copy of the What's
New in Version 2.1.6 PDF file (QDNew216.pdf). It's about 28 pages long.
Version 2.1.5 (Released 6 July 2005)
This update adds support for the new LIC Referral Reason in DOCLINE and also fixes some
minor infelicities in version 2.1.4, including:
- Department abbreviations that were numbers only would sometimes be misinterpreted as
Dates when printed out in Department Reports; these now are formatted properly.
- ISSNs in the Copyright Report (All Items) now print in their proper place (they were
printing with the following Journal Title in 2.1.4).
- QD now also saves the old Loansome Doc Patron ID in the Patron Notes field, so that it
will be available if we need to re-import items from a backup file that was created in
DOCLINE 2.3 or earlier.
For a complete description of changes and other added functionality in versions 2.1.4
and 2.1.5, print out a copy of the What's
New in Version 2.1.5 PDF file (QDNew215.pdf).
Version 2.1.4 (Released 5 June 2005)
This upgrade included changes made necessary by the introduction of DOCLINE 2.5 on June
5, 2005. This version conforms to the change made by NLM in the display of Loansome Doc
Patron Information. For a complete description of changes and other added functionality in
version 2.1.4, print out a copy of the What's
New in Version 2.1.4 PDF file (QDNew214.pdf); it's about 31 pages long. In addition to
these changes, the following infelicities in 2.1.3 are fixed in 2.1.4:
- DOCLINE Max Cost now shows as "Any cost" rather than "N/A" for items
without a maximum cost, following DOCLINE usage.
- A new check is made when updating Lends to be sure that an Action Date is filed with the
record.
- A change of Patron is now permitted in the Local Billing Grid (used to cause a
"non-updateable" error in 2.1.3).
- ILL Reports now exclude ALL items where Source is Copy Service (not just those with our
own LIBID).
- Journals Borrowed and Copyright reports now double-check JrnlID and other factors to
gather all appropriate items under the correct Journal Title (this should eliminate
reports where the title splits items into two entries, because of slight changes in the
spelling of the Journal Title).
- Library and Local Charge Profile names will now permit only numbers and letters to be
used in the profile name; earlier names with $ or other characters in the name caused
problems in the database.
- Automatic updating of Journal Title to "Owned" is now done for current year
only. Previously, any time an incoming Loansome Doc Receipt had indicated that
"Library reports holding vol/yr" or "Library owns volume or year"
QuickDOC would take this as a cue to update the Journal record to Owned. Not so fast!
Because QD uses the Owned value to compute CCL or CCG values, it's important that this
value reflect "currently" owned or subscribed. See the What's New in Version 2.1.4 document for
more detailed discussion on this.
- If you suspect that your current database location isn't correct (it's always reflected
in the path to QuickDOC.MDB shown in the Status Bar beneath the blue screen), just click
anywhere on the Status Bar to refresh the lookup.
Version 2.1.3 (Released 7 December 2003)
This upgrade included changes made necessary by the introduction of DOCLINE 2.0 on
December 8, 2003. For a complete description of these changes print out a copy of the What's New in Version 2.1.3 PDF file
(QDNew213.pdf); it's about 6 pages long.
Version 2.1.2 (Released 29 October 2003)
This upgrade added new Local Preferences choices, plus various Billing and Invoice
changes. The following infelicities in 2.1.1 are fixed in 2.1.2:
- Library Groups on the Groups Tab of the Library record are now sorted.
- A new check is made when importing DOCLINE items to automatically change Borrows over 5
years old to CCL. Also, requests for journals marked as "Owned" in tblJrnls are
changed to CCL. Loansome Doc receipts that note "Library owns" or
"holding" information will cause a check on tblJrnls to update Owned.
- Add Borrow form now shows long Cost Centers in full as a tool tip (hold the cursor over
the field to see the full Cost Ctr).
- Fixed the situation where, after the Local Charge is manually changed to 0.00, it
reverts to the default charge when the Local Delivery Method is later changed (this always
forces a re-lookup); the re-lookup will now be skipped if the Local Charge is set
manually.
- Fixed infelicity where the Delete Invoice process in Library Billing wasn't properly
deleting the EFTS Upload file when used to reset an EFTS Upload back to Filled.
- Fixed infelicity where Loansome Doc Transfers weren't looking up the new default charge
for the Transfer Library.
- Fixed the misplaced Date Rec'd column in some Copyright (All) Reports.
- Changed most of the auto-capitalization functions in Add/Edit Libraries, Patrons and
Depts to check only the first letter for capitalization. Often trying to be too clever is
a BAD idea!.
Version 2.1.1 (Released 18 February 2003)
This upgrade added numerous new Reports, etc. The following infelicities in 2.1.0 are
fixed in 2.1.1:
- It's now possible to add a Cost Center in a newly-created record.
- Fixed the "(None)" that appears in Local Invoices when the database entry is
in Caps (will now be blank).
- Mail Stop now prints on Library Invoice either on the same line as the Library Name (if
the name is < 30 char's) or on the next line (if there's no Street2) or not printed.
- Fixed some instances where the Local charges weren't automatically being updated at
check-in for Borrows.
- Fixed the Other Surcharge in Local charges to properly add on to the charge for all
items at check-in for Borrows.
- Referral Reason Report in Compute Totals (Borrow) now properly counts the "No
Reason" tally (it missed Nulls before).
- Import External QuickDOC DB now adds ALL tables (1 record at a time) from old table to
new (Cost Center & Locals Tables were sometimes missed).
- Fixed Error generated when Searching 'All Records' in Local Billing.
- Fixed cases where Local Charges were unchanged when Status was set to Not Filled; now
Locals are 0.00.
- "In Process" and "Received" items are now also tabulated in Compute
Totals (Loaned) and (Borrowed).
- Global Changes of Charge Fields are now permitted in the Local Billing Grid (for Open
items only, with a beep as an alert!).
- Fixed "Item not found in collection..." error when toggling back from Backfile
Grid to Outstanding Grid after Jan 1, 2003 (the new, hidden "2003Borr" column
used to count time borrowed was stuck at 2002!).
- When constructing paths for the EFTS and Export folders, the program now checks for a
trailing backslash that appears to be added by operating systems in some situations, to
prevent a "cannot create ...//export folder" error.
Version 2.1.0 (Released 9 October 2002)
This is the Local Billing Update. It adds new Tables and fields in existing Tables to
track Cost Centers and Payment information. It adds Patron/Department/Cost Center Invoice,
Payment and Lookup capabilities that are similar to the Library Billing functions that
have been in QuickDOC since QDLend (11/2000). New functions include:
- Print Patron Bills
- Print Patron Trial Invoices
- Print Department Bills
- Print Department Trial Invoices
- Print Cost Center Report (Invoice)
- Local Payments
- Pre-Payments and Quick Payments after check-in
- Borrow Notes Field appears on Borrow Grids and Add Borrow form
(QDPortal adds DOCLINE=Yes/No and LD Comments to this field for Loansome Doc items
automatically)
- Local Billing Grids are now available for Export to Excel, etc.
- IFM is now a payment choice, along with EFTS.
- A New Exclude Not Filled Items checkbox will exclude Not Filled from
retrieved items when checked
- Request Number searches using the search term Beginning With
will return matching items from the dates specified only (normal behavior for Request
Number searches is to bring back a match whenever it is found)
Version 2.0.2 (Released 12 May 2002)
- QDPortal Changes reflected in QD
DOCLINE Password Security, if desired.
New Setup Choice to send Patron Number only, not name, etc.
New 'Save Cancel' Button so that Cancels can be saved in IE 5.5+;
New 'Save Locator+' Button to manually save items not saved automatically;
New right-click Context Menu for Patron List, Routing Prefix and NNA Date Command Buttons
(This permits cut-and-paste in situations where button-click doesn't work);
Status/Cancel reprint/saves are now checked three ways to identify Borrow/Loan.
Version 2.0.2 of QuickDOC implements these additional QDPortal methods:
1. A report of New Libraries Created (C:\QDLoan\NewLibNt.txt) is made after anew Library record is created in an import from QDPortal.
2. New Loansome Doc Updates and Transfers now properly enable the Import QDPortal Button
3. The field for Loansome Doc Unique Identifier now accepts up to 30 characters;
4. Completely revamped code where Loansome Doc Patrons are identified or created, including a new Input Box for forcing creation of LD
Boston Public Library, The
into the Input Box produces:
Last: Boston Public Library
First: The
on the Patron Form and
The Boston Public Library
when printed;
5 Lookup now also uses whatever is filed in the Patron Record when the Patron is found using the lookup by Patron UserID;
6. Double-clicking on an Item in Libraries List, Patrons List or Departments List will now automatically bring up the full information form
Version 2.0.1 (Released 25 April 2002)
- Added the form for Editing Local (Patron/Dept) Charge
Profiles.
- The Merge Addresses button on the Local Addresses form now
works properly.
- Changed the OCLC and RLIN fields in the Libraries Table to
accept up to 20 characters.
- Invoices no longer print "(None)" when State/Prov
or Country isn't known.
- New Borrow Report "Loansome Doc Filled In-House"
lists the Items filled as the primary LD Library (these are no longer included in any
other reports, except for Compute Totals).
New QuickDOC.hlp file is now included with any
installation or update, along with QuickDOC.PDF Manual (407+ pages
printed), included with installation, but also available at http://nnlm.gov/quickdoc/QuickDOC.PDF).
-------Still to do-------------------
- Method of Printing Borrow Patron Transmittal Slip print. A
method of reprinting from database records will also be useful.
- Email Patron notification methods should be fairly
automatic from the Library point of view..., and so forth.
- Billing Statements (both Local and Library) need to be
added
