Carol Ann Hughes, Associate University Librarian for Public Services at the UC Irvine Libraries, is retiring on July 1, 2014.
Gail Sorrough, Director of Medical Library Services, is retiring July 1, after over 25 years at the UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion Fishbon Library and over 40 years working in libraries. She says that “Working at Mount Zion has been an enriching experience – my colleagues are an exceptional group and I know I will miss working with them – but it is time to move on.”
Lise Bretton is the new librarian at Sharp Grossmont Hospital Kirwin Memorial Medical Library in La Mesa, CA. She replaces Linda Counts, who retired in January this year.
Cinda McClain is the new Continuing Medical Education Operations Coordinator at the Banner Corporate Center in Sun City West, AZ.
Joe Labuda is the new Director at Pima Community College West Campus Learning Resource Center in Tucson, AZ.
Dyan Martin, Librarian and Manager of Academic Affairs for Kaiser Permanente Orange County Health Sciences Library in Anaheim, CA, retired on April 4th after 33 years of service.
Anne Harris is the new Library Relations Manager for the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC).
Quincy McCrary is the new librarian at UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research in Fresno, CA. He replaces Judy Kammerer, who is now the librarian at California University of Health Sciences in Clovis, CA.
Judy Kraemer is now the Management Consultant at City of Hope National Medical Center’s Graff Medical and Scientific Library in Duarte, CA.
There have been staffing changes at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Library at the University of Guam in Mangilao, Guam. Paul Drake is now the Reference/Library Instruction Librarian and Daniel McKay is the new Electronic Resources & Serials Librarian.
Margaret Hsieh, Medical Librarian at ValleyCare Health Library in Pleasanton, CA, retired in late February 2014.
Christa Wahl is the new Health Sciences Librarian at PIH Health Hospital Medical Library in Whittier, CA. Christa replaces Lucinda Allshouse, who retired in late 2013.
Nancy Crossfield, Owen Medical Library, Saint Agnes Medical Center, Fresno, CA, and nurse manager Tara Reed co-taught 4 sessions of a half-day presentation titled Evidence-Based Practice Workshop: Enhancing Skills for the Professional Nurse. The workshop was designed for medical-surgical nurses by Ms. Reed to emphasize the importance of professional standards and evidence-based patient care, and to introduce floor nurses via laptops to tools such as PICO, DynaMed, PubMed, and CINAHL. Eighty nurses participated in the sessions, which may be expanded hospital wide.
Bethany Myers is the new Research Informationist at the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library – Research, Instruction and Collection Services (RICS).
Diana Almader-Douglas, NLM Associate Fellow based at the Arizona Health Sciences Library, University of Arizona in Tucson, is a co-convener of the newly established Latino Special Interest Group (SIG) of MLA.
A special mention goes to Dr. Angela Ruffin, who retired as Head of the National Network Office (NNO) at the National Library of Medicine, on February 28, after a long and distinguished career.
Also, Kaiser Permanente opened a new state-of-the-art, 275,000-square-foot medical office in San Leandro, CA, on April 7. The opening of the four-story facility marks an important expansion of primary and specialty care for Kaiser Permanente in southern Alameda County and the East Bay. A six-story, 437,000-square-foot hospital is scheduled to open on the site June 3.
