Health Pathways: New Consumer Health Training Opportunities in the Pacific Southwest Region!

Health Information Needs and Response

As consumers become more involved with their own healthcare, the importance of access to quality, accurate, and appropriate information is crucial. The Affordable Care Act and the associated challenges for consumers underscore the need for information and the very real difficulties facing ordinary people as they try to navigate the system. Health information is often written at a high school reading level or above, yet many people read at lower levels or need information in other languages. (more…)

NLM 2013 AIDS Community Information Outreach Projects Announced!

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) funded seven HIV/AIDS Community Information Outreach Projects in September 2013, in the 20th round of the program. NLM has continued its HIV/AIDS-related outreach efforts to community-based organizations, patient advocacy groups, faith-based organizations, departments of health, and libraries. This program provides support to design local programs for improving information access for HIV/AIDS patients and the affected community, as well as their caregivers. Congratulations to the following recipient, which received funding for a project based in the NN/LM Pacific Southwest Region! (more…)

Lighting the Way to the Nevada Library Association Conference in Reno!

PSR exhibited at the Nevada Library Association (NLA) Conference in Reno, NV in October. The theme of the conference was Lighting the Way. Librarians came from all over Nevada, along with some from California. (more…)

NN/LM PSR State Pages Get a New Look!

In October 2013, we significantly revamped the NN/LM Pacific Southwest Region “state pages” (Arizona, California, Hawai’i, Nevada, and the U.S. Territories in the Pacific), and moved them to the eye-catching LibGuides platform! First launched over ten years ago, these pages are designed to help PSR Network members to better understand health needs in their specific geographic area and facilitate gathering health data and/or statistics for the area. This demographic and health-related data can assist in planning health information outreach projects, competing for NN/LM awards or NLM grants and funding, and measuring your library’s impact. (more…)
