What’s New from the NLM Technical Bulletin, May-June 2012
Here are some highlights from the NLM Technical Bulletin issue from May-June, 2012.
The article on PubMed Discover Tools shows some recent changes to PubMed including the new Results by Year chart. For example, if you put obsessive compulsive disorder in the PubMed search box, you will see this chart on the right side of the screen. See how the number of articles on this subject has grown!
The “Results by Year” timeline tool will display for search results with 10,000 or more citations, but I have seen it for searches of 6,000 citations too.
Information about the PubMed Filters Sidebar Replaces the Limits Page was released! This has been a big change and it may be rearranged again in the near future. In addition, NCBI has created a Filters Sidebar Tutorial on YouTube.
The Computed Author Sorted Display in PubMed uses an algorithm to display more relevant results by disambiguating common author names. It appears when you click the author name link on the abstract display.
This is the yearly issue that showcases the NLM Theater Presentations held at MLA 2012 in Seattle. In addition, the PowerPoint presentations from the Online Users and DOCLINE User Meetings and the NLM Update are available.
NLM Classification, UMLS, and the IndexCat database have been updated. The Drug Information Portal is now available in mobile format; Haz-Map has been redesigned, both mobile and web. The Branching Out: The MeSH® Vocabulary video has been updated; it is now 11 minutes versus the previous 12 minutes. It’s a superb introduction to the MeSH vocabulary!
The NLM Training Center (NTC) features the upcoming PubMed, TOXNET, and Teaching with Technology Classes.
This is a very substantive issue. Check it out!
