Recent Updates via the Technical Bulletin
The following are some updates from recent Technical Bulletin articles of interest to our Network members
MeSH Database updated in PubMed
The MeSH Database was redesigned to provide users with the same streamlined interface now available in PubMed® and the NLM® Catalog. These changes were implemented in PubMed on February 14, 2011..
The Autocomplete Feature is part of the MeSH Database, too.
The Search Builder is now included as a box on the right of the MeSH database screen. You can “Add to Search Builder” by selecting your Boolean operators and then clicking on Search PubMed. When you select multiple subheadings to be added to your search, PubMed “knows” to add them with the OR Boolean operator and appropriate parentheses.
The Substance Name field was renamed to Supplementary Concepts.
This Technical Bulletin article tells all about these changes, and shows illustrations of the relevant MeSH Database pages.
PubMed Subject Subset Strategies
The PubMed subject subset strategies are reviewed each year to determine if modifications are necessary. The following subset strategies were revised on February 9, 2011:
- Cancer
- Complementary Medicine
- Dietary Supplements
- Toxicology
- Veterinary Science
And described in this NLM Technical Bulletin article.
