On July 1, 1998, new library contributors to the Periodicals database of Melvyl were added from two sources: a subset of California libraries in the National Library of Medicine's SERHOLD database; and the public, academic and special libraries contributing to the California Union List of Periodicals (CULP).
These new contributors, along with the academic libraries already in the Periodicals data-base (California Academic Libraries List of Serials or CALLS), form the Statewide Serials Database, a project sponsored by the California State Library. A number of Region 7 libraries indicated in the past that they wanted to be included in the subset of SERHOLD that was uploaded into this merged union list. NLM produced a tape of this subset at the beginning of this year. California SERHOLD libraries will again have the opportunity to indicate whether they want to participate in the Statewide Serials Database before the next upload in 1999.
