The California Statewide Serials Project Wants You!

The Library of California is the linkage and integration of more than 8,000 public and private libraries throughout the state of California into one pattern of mutually-sustaining cooperation and service.

The California Statewide Serials Project (CSSP) is a tool in support of the access services program (interlibrary loan/document delivery, patron referral and on-site services, direct loan) of the Library of California. The CSSP could also provid e a means of coordinated collection development and retention for libraries throughout the state.

The CSSP upgrades and merges three major union lists of serials:

  1. CALLS (academic and research libraries) resides on the MELVYL ® system of the University of California.
  2. CDB-S/CULP (public libraries, school libraries, community college libraries and others not included in CALLS) resides on an automated system owned by the California State Library.
  3. The Region 7 subset of SERHOLD, which resides at the National Library of Medicine (NLM)

    A number of Region 7 libraries have indicated in the past that they wanted to be included in the subset of SERHOLD that is uploaded into this merged union list. In a few months, we will be again contacting all Region 7 libraries in California t hat have holdings in SERHOLD, to determine whether they would like to participate in the CSSP. At that time we will also include more detailed information about the implications of participation.
