Welcome Back to the West Coast, Natalie Kamper!

Natalie Kamper pictureNatalie Kamper returns to the West Coast this fall during the second year of her National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship. This optional second year places the NLM Associate Fellow at a health sciences library or information center; activities focus on designing and implementing information services that are integrated with clinical or educational programs and contribute directly to the parent institution's mission. Natalie's second year assignment will be at the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library at UCLA.

During the first year of the Associate Program, Natalie received broad-based training in the functions, products, and services of the National Library of Medicine. She also worked on two special projects, creating a web-based course on public health and developing a scheme of technical metadata elements needed for digital preservation. During the second year, at Biomed, Natalie will begin working at the Pacific Southwest Regional Medical Library concentrating on outreach to public health professionals and building upon the public health course she created while at NLM. She will also attend the American Public Health Association meeting in San Francisco in November. Following her PSRML experience, Natalie will work with other Biomed staff on library administration and management, database construction and management, and digital/medical information projects. The second year of the Associate Fellowship will include a joint presentation by Natalie and Judy Consales, as Natalie's preceptor, in June 2004 at a colloquium at NLM.

Prior to going to Bethesda as an NLM Associate Fellow, Natalie earned her MLIS degree from UCLA. While in graduate school, she interned at two network member institutions, the RAND Library in Santa Monica and the Norris Medical Library at the University of Southern California. Natalie holds a BS degree in Kinesiology from the College of William and Mary.
