New! DUNS Number Required for Federal Grants as of October 1, 2003

Every application for a new federal grant, competing continuation grant, or cooperative agreement will require a DUNS number as of October 1, 2003. A DUNS number (Data Universal Numbering System) is a unique nine-digit identification number provided by Dun & Bradstreet. The DUNS number is site specific, and each distinct physical location such as branches, divisions, and headquarters, may be assigned a DUNS number. The DUNS number will be used for tracking purposes and will be required for both paper and electronic filings.

This new requirement applies to all federal grants. It does not apply to PSRML funding such as PSRML's Express Outreach Awards or Technology Awareness Awards. More information, including how to find out if your organization already has a DUNS number, is available in NIH's announcement, and the DUNS Q&A, http://grants.nih.gov/grants/duns_qa.doc.
